Cogent sets its stall out for 2009, investing for 2010 and beyond...

As Cogent looks back on another 12 months, we can take heart that we have consolidated our position with another successful year of trading. It would be folly, however, to assume that one is immune from the unprecedented global economic situation.

So, needless to say Cogent has reviewed its priorities and ensured costs are in control.

That does not mean that it makes sense to stop all investments and in fact, in our view, it's the right time to seize the opportunity to invest, in preparation for the upturn. Having spent the last few years building our production capacity and capability we are turning our attention to our Business Systems.

With a planned go live date of 1st March we will be enhancing our Materials and Resource Planning by introducing 123MRP. The system will enhance all elements of the business, not least that entity that we consider so fundamentally important at Cogent Technology, communication. The systems in-built Communication Requirements Manager will automate many of the administration and engineering processes ensuring that individuals are prompted to perform critical actions. The system has been especially adapted to suit the traceability requirements of ISO 13485:2003, under which we manufacture Medical Devices.

Further investment is evident here on our new Web Site which launched in January. This is the visible part of a consistent marketing effort which has been adding new names to the customer list during the whole of the last year.

With currencies fluctuating wildly, and at the time of writing, an historically weak GBP, decisions on where in the world to manufacture are not as clean cut as they were. Cogent Technology continues to offer the best of both worlds with capacity available both in the UK (currently a low cost territory if you are purchasing from elsewhere in Europe or the USA) and in Eastern Europe where very high labour content products remain most competitive. We can direct individual elements of customer portfolios for manufacture at the right plant, at the optimum price.
